Postcard from Kitzbühel
Picturesque nature to the left, a million dollar view to the right and yes, maybe also the grass is actually greener here… Welcome to “Kitz” – aka the quintessence of Alpine luxury, the synonym for elegance and the place to be.
Whatever the reason for your visit and no matter if it is summer or winter, if it is day or night, you will find endless possibilities to spend some time in style. But better be warned: You will never want to leave this place again!
HOW TO ...... THE ALPINE LUXURY WAY?
… STRIKE A POSE …
One thing is for sure: Kitzbühel is a pure paradise for all kinds of outdoor lovers. All year round and thanks to its magnificent mountain idyll, “the city of the chamois” serves as a bountiful playground for sports aficionados and offers plenty of top-notch opportunities to work out.
The must-do activity when visiting the glistening winter landscape of Kitzbühel? Hit the slopes!
All along, the town has been a ski resort of international renown, world-famous for the Hahnenkamm and the legendary Streif – one of the world’s toughest downhill courses on the World Cup circuit (if not the most!). Given the guaranteed snow from October until May, the perfectly groomed slopes, the high standard of services and – not to forget – all the cosy ski huts, it comes as no surprise that Kitzbühel is loved by the “High Snowciety”. To enjoy this very special “Kitz flair”, you may of course also opt for snowshoeing, tobogganing, ice skating – or simply people-watching.
Beyond that, Kitzbühel is a top destination in spring, summer and autumn as well. One of the many places to enjoy nature at its best is the Schwarzsee which is not only among the warmest and most beautiful lakes in the Alps, but also has powerful healing properties thanks to its moor based water. Known as a recreation area, the lake offers a lot of sports activities such as swimming, fishing, rowing, stand-up paddling or just taking a walk. No need to say that Kitzbühel is further the perfect terrain for hiking and (mountain) biking, for climbing, golfing or paragliding.
True, why not experience the town’s beauty from above?
… START THE DAY …
In order to render your friends, family and followers on social media speechless, the only way is up to the Kitzbüheler Horn and its picture perfect, top-of-the-world view over the Kitzbühel Alps. But instead of doing it the casual way, you should definitely decide for an exceptional adventure:
Be “the first on the mountain” and enjoy the Horngipfelfrühstück!
On selected dates in summer, you have the chance to go up to the mountaintop while Kitzbühel is still sleeping. Leaving by cable car from 4.30 am in the morning, you will experience a breathtaking sunrise at 2,000 m, accompanied by the sounds of the local traditional wood-wind melodies.
As if this was not enough, a brilliant breakfast is served at the charming Gipfelhaus and a tour through the Alpenblumengarten, a flower garden with 400 Alpine flower varieties, is guided. Among all the splendid shapes and colors in full bloom, you will also discover the magic of the edelweiss flower in real life.
Is there any better way to say, “Good morning, world”?
… SPEND THE NIGHT …
Speaking of wonderful mornings… When spending the night in Kitzbühel, always settle for the best, for a true Alpine jewel of excellent comfort and hospitality, for a place that perfectly blends tradition and luxury: Check-in at the Rasmushof.
Front row only – 365 days a year!
Located at the foot of the Hahnenkamm, just in the finish area of the Streif, the Rasmushof is not only home to exquisite suites in country-style, but also offers the best ski-in and ski-out options, its very own 9-hole golf course, as well as delicious Alpine specialties and fancy drinks.
Moreover, the ultimate highlight of the Kitzbühel party summer takes place at the Rasmushof every single year: the Almsommerparty. In case you visit at the beginning of August, do not forget to bring your dirndl and lederhosen and dance the night away at this legendary party.
… CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES …
Oh yes, Kitzbühel’s “haute parties” are definitely worth the hype! A society hotspot par excellence is the one and only Jimmy’s in the heart of the medieval town of Kitzbühel. Its terrace right in the pretty pedestrian area is the perfect place to see and to be seen, while sipping the best cocktails, posing like on a catwalk, as well as mingling with the rich, beautiful and famous… Attending one of the international fashion shows may actually not feel that different.
So, better be prêt-à-party!
Another mecca to experience an unforgettable night? Without any doubt, the Club Take Five. As a member of the World’s Finest Clubs, it is among the most exclusive club venues in the world and thus well known far beyond Austria’s borders. Be prepared for a world-class nightlife experience with other stylish people from all over the globe: Three luxurious bars, two spacious VIP areas, a dance floor with the jet-set crowd, as well as the best beats from resident DJs and international guest DJs make for extraordinary parties.
… CHILL OUT …
After having the time of your life, your body and soul long for the best time-out? Well, hello then at the Maierl Alm & Chalets in Kirchberg! Leave the outside world at the door and simply savour every precious moment at this hotspot of pure indulgence.
The only things on your to-do list for the next couple of days:
- relax in the jacuzzi
- recharge your batteries in the sauna
- enjoy the culinary creations
- cosy up to the fireplace
- marvel at the fabulous panorama
- treat yourself with a massage (or two)
Because you deserve it, right?
… SHOP TILL YOU DROP …
Filled with new energy, you may not miss the chance to do some superb shopping in Kitz. Next to the “who is who” of international luxury boutiques like Moncler or Louis Vuitton, you will find a wide range of upmarket “local heroes”. The top of the shops? Definitely Sportalm Kitzbühel, a Kitzbühel fashion original offering exclusive skiwear, sophisticated trends and traditional costume, Swarovski with its world-renowned jewellery and Frauenschuh, a true institution in town for outstanding leather fashion and luxury sportswear – that is all you need for the perfect “Kitzbühel look”.
Always remember: You only live once!
So, make sure to also stop by one of the three stores of Helmut Eder, where every fashionista’s heart skips a beat. Why? Because of the unique contemporary mix of international designers (Chloé, Saint Laurent, Valentino – do we need to say more?) and luxury brands “made in Austria”. One of our favorites among these is Phil Petter: With its tagline, “born in Austria, at home in the world”, you may call it the perfect match with edelweiss – the Alpine Vodka. Indeed, the exceptional knitwear is designed and manufactured in Vorarlberg as well – and we absolutely love its timeless style!
… WINE AND DINE …
When it comes to culinary delights, one of the highlights – in the truest sense of the word – is the Restaurant Hochkitzbühel bei Tomschy. Located at the top of the Hahnenkamm, it does not only offer stunning views, but also superior service and from time to time even international top DJs. Aside from that, the building is a place full of history: Being the first bar on the mountain, soon after the cable car was established in the thirties, it was designed by Alfons Walde, the most famous honorary citizen of the town who is responsible for Kitzbühel’s iconic chamois logo as well.
Hungry for more? Here you go:
Whatever you may prefer, whether classy or hearty, trendy or traditional, you will find it in Kitzbühel. From the best Kaiserschmarrn (or in general one of the best cuisines paired with a stunny view) at Rosis Sonnbergstubn, Lobsters, oysters and sea fish of all sorts at 1st Lobster, to the best steaks in town at Steakhouse Kaps – Kitz truly leaves nothing to be desired…
…and no words to be said than:
OH, WOW!
